Intern – Marketing and Communications Intern


Background

The internship is a professional development opportunity aimed at enabling a talented new entrant/recent joiner to the world of work to build a strong start to their careers and contribute to our work in a mutually beneficially way. Role purpose
To support planning and delivery of British Council Senegal’s work in line with our strategic objectives. The role will serve to provide a highly motivated beginner/recent entrant to the workforce a learning experience that will help them build essential work skills in a dynamic organisational environment and cultivate a strong foundation for their professional life.

Main accountabilities
Grow knowledge, skills and confidence and deliver tangible results performing the following specific functions working with and learning from colleagues:
Content Creation, curation & digital marketing:
• Execute social media strategies to enhance the British Council’s online presence.
• Improve existing digital platforms (website, Instagram) and any new platforms.
• Track and report on the performance of content across different channels.
• Create visually appealing and engaging high-level video content and digital assets.
• Collaborate with the communications team to conceptualise and produce multimedia assets for campaigns and events.

Programmes Support:
• Provide ongoing support to programme teams, ensuring alignment with the broader communications and marketing strategy.
• Assist in the delivery and promotion of events, collaborating closely with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders.
Reporting and Analysis:
• Work with the team to prepare detailed reports on the reach and visibility of campaigns, events, and overall marketing efforts.
• Analyse the impact of campaigns and recommend adjustments for continuous improvement.
• Track performance metrics and provide insights for ongoing campaigns.


Qualifications, Role Specific Knowledge and Experience
The ideal candidate should:
• Be new/recent entrant to the workforce (graduated within the last 2 years), preferably in communications, digital content creation or related field.
• Be familiar with social media strategies and platforms
• Have strong written and oral communication skills in English.
• Be adaptable, able to quickly build understanding in new areas
• Be committed to learning
• Be able to work with a diverse groups of people
• Be resourceful and have an attention to detail
• Constructive and results-driven approach to work
• Ability to organise, co-ordinate and handle multiple tasks


Desirable:
• Interest in arts and culture, skills, youth empowerment
• Highly creative with an eye for design and storytelling.
• Proven experience in graphic design, multimedia production, and digital marketing.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro).
• Videography, photography and basic editing skills would be a nice to have

Additional Information
• Location: Senegal, Dakar
• Duration: One Year
• Internship Allowance: 190 000XOF per month

Proof of Identity requirements/right to work in country: Candidates are expected to have researched whether they have the right to live and work in Senegal.
Background Checks: Initial and continuing employment with the British Council is subject to a background check. The job undertaken defines the nature of check(s) and assessment applied.
