Role Title: G.P. Operator (Pumpman)
Location: Dakar, Senegal
Overall Job Purpose
The G.P. Operator assists in offloading and bunkering operations, tank gauging and sample collection from cargo and slops tanks, dosing chemicals in slops, supports ODME operations, performs pump room duties and routine maintenance of marine equipment, ensuring all activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and economically.
Core Responsibilities
The role assists with safe mooring and unmooring operations, cargo and bunker hose connections, monitoring of offloading and bunkering operations, and sample collection during offload activities according to procedures and safety standards. It involves checking oil specifications by gauging and sampling cargo and slops tanks, verifying FPSO integrity by checking soundings and gas levels, dosing slops tanks with sodium hypochlorite and biocide, and supporting crude oil wash, tank cleaning, venting, and ODME operations by operating related equipment and systems. The operator maintains the pump room through daily rounds and routines, bilge level monitoring, housekeeping, and compliance with pump room entry procedures. They contribute to preventive and corrective maintenance and lubrication under supervisor guidance and the Planned Maintenance system, ensure equipment upkeep via routine checks, support helideck operations for helicopter arrivals when certified, communicate effectively with the team and CCR, and perform maintenance within their training scope. The role involves mechanical isolation and de-isolation as directed, working under PTW and isolation certificates, conducting toolbox talks, identifying and reporting oil spills according to policy, disposing of waste and materials per procedures, operating valves for offloading line up, crude oil wash, water wash, and inert gas system (IGS) line up, proactively managing training requirements per MODEC’s Integrated Management System, and assisting the HSE Technician in verifying a hazard-free marine working area.

The operator acts in compliance with MODEC’s HSSEQ Management System Policy, Life Saving Rules, Integrated Management System standards, and supports the preservation of the environment, health, safety, and assets. They comply with the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, MODEC Group Ethics and Compliance Policies, local procedures, relevant laws, regulations, and MODEC training requirements. Emergency preparedness follows the Training Matrix, Emergency Management Guide, and Offshore Emergency Management protocols.
Financial and Operational Authority
The role operates within the limits defined by MODEC’s Authorization Matrix as outlined in the Integrated Management System.
Work Relationships
The position complies with the organizational structure as defined in the Integrated Management System and involves regular interaction with the marine operations team and supervisors.

The G.P. Operator is expected to apply good practices and judgment in marine operations, identify and propose efficiency and integrity improvements, support team performance through knowledge sharing and mentoring as a senior employee, participate in defect elimination and system ownership initiatives to provide onshore teams with operational insight, familiarize themselves with facility systems, ensure safe equipment operation and maintenance, and maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety requirements including permit systems, operational and emergency procedures, and company policies.
Qualifications & Experience
A high school diploma is mandatory, with a technical school degree preferred. Certification includes a technical degree or STCW III/5 (able seafarer engine). Training must align with the Training Matrix and MODEC’s Training Management Procedure. The ideal candidate has a minimum of five years’ experience on FPSOs, oil tankers, or similar facilities with knowledge of crude oil washing, inert gas systems, and marine safety. Experience on FPSPs is an advantage. Fluency in English is mandatory and basic French is expected. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of CMMS such as AMOS, Maximo, SAP, or PROP is required.
