EMERGENCY HEALTH UNIT OPERATIONS OFFICER

The Opportunity
Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the–EHU Operations Officer position in London or at any existing Save the Children International office location.

ROLE PURPOSE:
The role’s primary focus is on managing EHU operational support on a day to day basis and to new and ongoing emergency responses to aid high quality programming; effective information and communication management; ensuring enough resourcing is available for the responses; and funds are managed in an effective and SC and donor compliant manner.
The post holder is expected to work flexibly within the team and may be assigned into different areas of work, within the key accountabilities described below, depending on needs and priorities and skillset.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
In some cases the role involves the possibility of international travel as part of emergency response teams in the event of a major humanitarian emergency.
During these deployments, the post holder will be expected to work within a newly agreed TOR and be ready to be deployed at short notice, if required.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential
• Experience of high volume administrative work in an office environment.
• Project coordination skills gained through managing complex cross-organisational projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Budget development and monitoring experience.
• A ‘can-do’ attitude and ability to deliver results against tight deadlines and under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to deal tactfully and sensitively with a wide range of people in a large organisation, very often at a distance.
• Proven attention for detail and ability to effectively manage a high volume of data and information.
• A high level of flexibility, adaptability, diplomacy and ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to organise own work, and to manage time and resources effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to work with people from a range of backgrounds and cultures.
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Ability to travel internationally, occasionally at short notice and to remote and insecure locations
• Experience of writing, researching and editing reports
• Highly computer literate and confident with Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Analytical skills with the ability to identify key points from complex material or information.
• Commitment to Save the Children’s mission, values and approach (includes child safeguarding, equal opportunities and health & safety)

Desirable
• Field experience in a humanitarian programme and broad understanding of humanitarian issues, international relations and the international humanitarian system
• Working knowledge of one or more international language in addition to English
• Ability to work in the UK (work permit or equivalient)

We can offer circa £27,000 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.
This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
