Duties
Performs maintenance and repairs to heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment at U.S. Government-owned and leased properties. Installs, replaces and troubleshoots air-conditioning equipment including wiring, control systems and components. Position is located in the Facilities Management Residential branch and reports to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of continuous, progressive work experiences in the refrigeration and air-conditioning field, plus some semi-skilled experiences in the other building and maintenance trades is required; i.e. electrical and plumbing.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Must possess full knowledge of established practices and procedures involved in the refrigeration and air-conditioning field.
Must possess a general knowledge in the following trades: electrical and plumbing.

Education Requirements:
Completion of secondary school (or local equivalent) or technical school with specialized training and certification as a Refrigeration or HVAC Technician is required.

Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:
Rudimentary/Basic Knowledge of English – Able to use greetings, ask simple questions and give simple directions.
Can form basic sentences and express basic thoughts. “This may be tested.”
Limited Knowledge of French or Bambara – Reasonable confident in speaking French or Bambara and able to handle social situations and casual conversation and limited work requirements.
Able to write simple texts and fill out forms. “This may be tested.”

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must possess a strong working knowledge in the refrigeration and air-conditioning field and the ability to safely use the tools of the trade.
Must be able to climb ladders and work on roofs, in high places and/or constricted spaces.
Must have a valid drivers’ license.

Agency Benefits:
Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S.
Mission in Bamako, may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain
(1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and
(2) the character of service.
Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.

This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
