Free the Slaves works at the grassroots level to empower vulnerable individuals and communities to achieve freedom from slavery and develop resistance to slavery. Position Overview
Free the Slaves’ Senegal seeks a Community Engagement Specialist with a strong background in provision the of livelihood and vocational services, capacity building, coordination, community mobilization, and engagement for a program to support communities and the government of Senegal to combat human trafficking and modern slavery in the mining sector. The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for program implementation at the community level and coordinating the needs assessment, provision of services, supervisor of survivors in vocation, and activities of implementing partners in the delivery of services as part of the program to combat sex
trafficking and forced labor. The candidate will coordinate with family members, and program implementing partners on planned activities, direct engagement with government stakeholders, facilitate the deployment of the FTS Community Liberation Toolkit, and support measurement and reporting on activities. The candidate will also support shelter partners in the provision of gender-sensitive and trauma informed care to survivors of human trafficking. The Community Engagement Specialist reports to the country program manager. The Community Engagement Specialist position will be based in Kédougou Region with periodic travel to other regions as and when the need arises.

Principal Responsibilities
• Periodic shelter support and monitoring visits to rehabilitation centers to ensure survivors of trafficking receive the needed services for their recovery process and to ensure shelter protocols and implemented
• Support to administer needs assessment to survivors as well as survivor satisfaction survey tools.
• Coordinate with FTS implementing partners, survivors, and community members to ensure survivors of trafficking are placed in vocational training of their choice or enrolled in schools.
• Coordinate with FTS implementing partners to ensure a systematic and timely delivery of services to survivors.
• Community engagement and mobilization to build and enhance structures to combat human trafficking and modern slavery.
• Coordinate socioeconomic and livelihood development of communities and families affected by modern slavery.
• Support awareness raising and capacity building of community members and stakeholders
• Document FTS work in the region, with organizations and individuals’ permission, through digital photography and written stories/testimonies, and ensure materials are shared with the communications team as required.
• Other duties: As may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Qualifications
Requirements:

• Passion for ending modern slavery and sexual exploitation.
• At least 2 years of work experience with community-based organizations.
• Strong understanding of community-based approaches to development.
• Degree in relevant field, e.g., international development, sociology, community/social work.
• Knowledge of how issues of sex trafficking and human trafficking relate to other development, poverty, and human rights issues.
• Ability to work confidently with local government agencies, local NGOs and community leaders to develop collaborative efforts.
• Flexible approach to work, and ability to respond quickly to urgent needs in the field.
• Detail oriented and multitasking abilities.
• Effective listening, conciliation, bridge-building and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel within and outside Senegal.
• Strong communication skills in French, English and Wolof or other local languages spoken in Senegal.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Word as well as Excel spreadsheets.

Compensation
This position is full time contract with payment rate commensurate with experience.
