2. Purpose / Objective

Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Environment Superintendent oversees all technical and managerial items related to the Site Environment Management Plan, and proper functioning of the Site Environment section team. He/she has full responsibility for: budgeting, cost control, team coaching and mentoring, reporting, maintaining the level of competency within the environment section, and for validating technical studies related to environmental matters linked to SGO and SMC.

1.1.1 Key Accountabilities
• The Environmental Superintendent ensure the Site’s compliant overall environmental requirements as well as environmental performance of all business units and business partners. This extends to regional exploration with SMC.
• Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 requirements.
• Identify, assess, and manage environmental risks and opportunities associated with operational and exploration activities.
• Support delivery of site sustainability and ESG objectives, including biodiversity, water stewardship, waste management, climate change, and rehabilitation programs.
• Lead environmental incident investigations, identify root causes, and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Analyze environmental performance data, identify trends, prepare management reports, and recommend improvement actions.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with regulatory authorities, local communities, NGOs, and other key stakeholders on environmental matters.
• Implement the improvement as per international best practices (ISO 14001, IFC, RGMP, ICMC etc.).
• He is also in charge of monitoring compliance with Senegalese laws and codes related to the protection of the environment and is preparing quarterly mandatory reports in French for the Regulator. Monthly activities and reports in English are also prepared by the Department including:
• Preparation of annual budgets and tactical plans
• Monitoring costs against budgets monthly
• Annual review of all staff within the Department.
• Preparation and monitoring of team’s individual development plans
• Coaching and mentoring team’s members
• Submission of improvement plans, setting objectives
• Management of consultants involved in technical studies.
• Technical validation of documents needed for permitting (related to environmental matters)

Safety Management:
• Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
• Ensure every person within the team is fit for work.
• Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
• Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures.
• Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
• Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.

3. Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Education:

• Master’s degree/First degree/Specialised certification in Environmental Science,
• Basic knowledge of GIS

Relevant experience:
• Minimum 10 years relevant work experience in preferably experience in mining industry.
• Solid knowledge and skills in stakeholder engagement
• High-level of knowledge of local competencies
• Environmental impact assessments (EIA)
• Environmental auditing
• Mine closure and rehabilitation
• Water and tailings management
• Environmental risk assessment
• Regulatory permitting
• French / English language skills essential
• Working experience with pack office Microsoft
• Experience of working effectively in a senior management team environment
• Experience working in multicultural environment, preferably in West Africa
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
• Demonstrate strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
• Ability to respond to a changing work environment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
• Reputation for integrity and ethics.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
