Mission and objectives
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. As the international community has committed to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition by 2030, one in nine people worldwide still do not have enough to eat. Food and food-related assistance lie at the heart of the struggle to break the cycle of hunger and poverty. For its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict, WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020.

Context
UNV has five Regional Offices in Amman (Arab States, Europe and the Commonwealth of Independ-ent States), Bangkok (Asia and the Pacific), Dakar (West and Central Africa), Nairobi (East and Southern Africa) and Panama City (Latin America and the Caribbean).
The Senegal Country office as an UNV Field Units interact with UN entities to strategically and mean-ingfully integrate volunteerism into the implementation and delivery of their mandates. As part of this process, UNV works with UN entities to identify opportunities where volunteers add specific and unique value to development programmes.

Task description
• Coordinate the development of a digital communications strategy to support the Senegal Country Strategic Plan.

• Implement country specific communication work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP in Senegal, as well as support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with overall communications and WFP strategies.

• Plan, manage and evaluate communications campaigns that favourably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and donors to raise WFP’s profile and support fundraising activities (liaising with Regional Bureau and HQ Communication Advisers for effective overall coordina-tion).

• Review existing material, design, and produce a communication package including key docu-mentation, props and templates for brand building, awareness-raising, advocacy, thought leadership and resource mobilization efforts targeting external audiences (government, com-munities, donors, other UN agencies, NGOs, etc).

• In coordination with head of communications and the communications consultant, manage the regular flow of news/information about WFP’s work in Senegal to the media, ensuring reputational risks are identified and managed.
• Track and analyse traditional and online media, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities.
• Define and implement a social media plan which leverages social media content, platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP ‘s activities in Senegal in liaison with RB and HQ teams.
• Take responsibility for content development in social media, mainly Facebook, Twitter, and WFP website.
• Create and maintain a dialogue with followers, including current and potential donors.
• Monitoring online thematic and technical discussions in networks and communities related to food security, nutrition, resilience building, social protection, gender etc- moderate discussions as necessary.
• Generate and/or facilitate the production of donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos, and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, as well as support the organisation of events to support country fundraising activities.
• Contribute to build capacity of WFP staff on digital communication and its tools, providing ad-vice, guidance, and training to ensure consistent, quality communications following and inter-acting on WFP activities on social medias.
• Collaborate with the program team in Senegal and in sub-offices to disseminate successes and innovation, gaps, and constraints to the implementation of activities through appropriate platforms.
• Undertake field visits as appropriate, to collect CAM contents and document project activities’ implementation through a communications lens.
• Support CAM unit in the designing and production of a set of external communications sup-port including factsheets, reports, studies, booklets, visibility items such as beneficiary cards, banners, roll up, etc.

Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in social media highly desired
• Adobe capability to Create Suite, CANVA, and any relevant tool for graphic design and video editing
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and orally.
• Commendable organizational skills.
• Knowledge of UN agencies and civil society organizations in West and Central Africa is highly desirable.

Required education level
Bachelor degree or equivalent in graphic design, advertising, public relations and/or marketing and/or media.

• Flexibility, adaptability, and ability and willingness to operate independently in austere, remote and potentially hazardous environments for protracted periods, involving physical hardship and little comfort, and including possible extensive travel within the area of operations; willingness to trans-fer to other duty stations within area of operations as may be necessary;
