Result of Service
• The youth, peace and security agenda is implemented in the sub-region;
• A regional action plan and national action plans for implementing the Abuja Call to Action are developed, implemented, and monitored;
• The 4th Youth Annual Forum for Peace and Security in West Africa and the Sahel is held in good conditions;
• A summer program on young women’s and men’s involvement in conflict prevention and peace and security processes is developed;
• A project for youth mobilization for intercommunity cohesion in areas plagued by violent extremism is developed and implemented;
• The youth capacities are strengthened in project designing, lobbying and resource mobilization techniques;
• Interactions with all actors in the region working on youth, peace and security issues continue;
• The activity on the exchange platforms between young people be made more dynamic;
• The various newsletters, reports and policy papers are elaborated, validated and disseminated.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Support the implementation of the youth, peace and security agenda in West Africa and the Sahel;
• Support the development by country partners of national action plans related to the Mindelo Call to Action and monitor their implementation;
• Support the organization of the 4th Annual Youth Forum for Peace and Security in West Africa and the Sahel;
• Support the development of a summer program on young women’s and men’s involvement in conflict prevention and peace and security processes;
• Develop and implement a project for youth mobilization for intercommunity cohesion in areas plagued by violent extremism;
• Plan capacity building activities for youth in project designing, lobbying and resource mobilization techniques;
• Continue interactions with all actors in the region working on youth, peace and security issues;
• Work to revitalize exchange platforms between young people;
• Contribute to the production of the biannual newsletter of the Working Group on Women, Youth, Peace and Security in West Africa and the Sahel;
• Contribute to the organization of thematic exchange sessions
• Facilitate West Africa and the Sahel young women and men quarterly meetings;
• Produce reports; m. Assume all relevant duties contributing to UNOWAS Gender, Women and Youth Unit goals.


Qualifications/special skills
• Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in development studies, social sciences, including youth studies or related fields.
• A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in the development field, experience in elaborating development programs is required, experience is project and program design, and implementation is required,
• Experience working in West Africa subregion is desirable

Languages
• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, for this position fluency of one of the two languages is required, Knowledge of the other is highly desirable. knowledge of Portuguese is an advantage.
