1- PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
The role is designed for the STP/BIOX® Plant and purpose of the role is to maximize equipment availability, utilization, and reliability by supervising department personnel in the implementation of planned activities, programs and effective production or breakdown response to meet targets within approved cost, schedule, and safety parameters. Optimize use of equipment within predetermined capacities & operational performance specifications.
The role also plays a significant part in the career development of plant operators by providing mentorship and implementation of career development plans.
2- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical/Operational
• Actively promote SMGO Health, Safety and Environmental actions for optimum performance.
• Partake in actively driven housekeeping and loss control.
• Complete production plans by scheduling and assigning personnel, accomplishing work results and resolving operational challenges to minimize down-times as well as achieving throughput (tonnage), optimum flotation, BIOX® and CIL performances/targets.
• Maintain discipline and performance management among the members of the shift.
• Take appropriate actions in case of irregularities or emergencies in consultation with relevant stakeholders including plant Operators, Supervisors, Managers etc.
• Maintain set production key performance indicators (KPIs) at the various sections.
• Control and reduce operational and engineering costs.
• Investigate all appropriate equipment related safety and environmental incidents and implement action.
• Build constructive relations with maintenance, planning, reliability engineering, metallurgical engineering, projects, and dayshift operations personnel.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or his delegate.
• Plan, direct and coordinate/supervise all operations or area personnel and associated assets.
• Delegate authority and responsibilities to employees within their section to ensure that all equipment is operated in a safe and efficient manner within specified specifications.
• Effectively supervise personnel by providing support, knowledge, equipment, instructions and monitoring to carry out all tasks in a safe, cost effective and productive manner to achieve outcomes of quality and performance targets in line with company policies and procedures.
• Provide leadership, direction, and coordination to ensure priorities are set and met, expenditures are within budget and improvement projects are implemented to meet department production and cost targets.
• Maintain high standards of performance and adopt a proactive approach to personnel performance and competence, and report all observed incidents/accidents or non-compliances plus develop and implement improvements that eliminate or reduce risk of re-occurrence in the future.
• Analyze historical performance against targets and implement plans to improve performance and or reduce costs.
• Provide effective resource leadership to meet targeted outcomes and encourage all to work as a team to achieve quality, KPI’s and implement improvement.
• Monitor all areas of work, plans and accurately report data as required, control quality, resources and budget utilization to meet targeted outcomes and reduce cost.
• Ensure the shift has appropriate resources including plans, personnel, parts and supplies to achieve shift outcomes.
• Always strive for continuous improvement within department by identifying and implementing better ways to complete tasks. Actively encouraging a culture conducive to people identifying and bringing ideas forward.
• Comply with all relevant procedures, monitor adherence to these procedures, modify procedures to ensure compliance and brief employees on the provisions contained in these procedures including ensuring appropriate education and training is obtained.
• Ensure that all individuals, in their area of responsibility, are aware of and comply with the requirements of relevant procedures.
• Ensure that procedures are applied fairly and consistently, in particular, ensure that individuals who seek assistance will not be disadvantaged and that all employment rights will be safe guarded.
• Ensure that all information is dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
• Participate productively as a member of the supervisory team.

• Maximize equipment availability/utilization by ensuring full respect of operational procedures, within the prescribed limits and specifications.
• Manage staffing levels to ensure personnel availability through roster and yearly vacation planning.
• Regularly report relevant information to the Plant Manager on a 'no surprises' basis.
• Participates in roster changeovers and collects/provides information on a range of issues including Status of plan, plant and equipment, problems encountered in previous shift, tasks to be completed /undertaken during next shift, safety and environmental issues.
• Liaises with other Supervisors and monitors assigned tasks in pursuit of completion of plans, quality, productivity, cost and achievement of department targets.
• Ensures all reporting requirements meet standards and have been completed accurately.
• Co-operates and coordinates with other operational area personnel in establishing and fulfilling planned activities.
• Carries out all tasks as directed by the Plant Manager or his delegate in a timely manner.
• Ensures that the security procedures of the plant are adhered to at all times.
• Monitor and report on any Security issues in and around the Plant.
• Preparation of production related information for the Plant Manager.
• Promote and support innovation & continuous improvement of work practices/processes in the plant and progressively built into the operation.
• Establishes and monitors all production KPI’s and develops and implements solutions for any KPI that is deviating from target.
• Reports and makes recommendations to Process Management based on operational information and trends.
Financial
• Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of production data (shift) for use by Mets/Process Management
• Tracks all production and metallurgical KPI’s and responds to solve any KPI that is deviating from target within their defined area of responsibility.
• Assists with development of budgets with primary focus on consumable consumptions including the monitoring and reporting of actual performance against budgets and forecasts.
• Develops work plans and implements agreed plan by effectively working with assigned resources to support the delivery of the production, operating cost and project targets.
Safety Management
• Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
• Ensure every person within the team is fit for work.
• Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
• Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures.
• Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
