Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.


Description of task
Under the direct supervision of UNDP Governance Advisor for West and Central Africa, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Summary of Key Functions
• Contribute to the development of analytical and policy papers on governance, peacebuilding, social cohesion, resilience, stability and prevention in the region, with clear strategic and programmatic options for UNDP’s interventions.
• Provide analytical reviews of other donors’ and partners’ interventions in the regions
• Prepare substantive technical papers, concept notes, narratives and project documents in the areas of governance, conflict prevention, peacebuilding and other strategic areas in the West and central Africa regions based on prevailing policy environment and lessons learned from previous interventions
• Develop policy materials such as briefs, executive summaries, study summaries, blogs, conference abstracts and other contents.
• Provide guidance and support in the implementation of the Hub regional programs/projects in light of the prevailing policy and strategic frameworks
• Prepare and support the organization of relevant events, workshops and meetings (e.g. UNISS Governance Working Group meetings, think Tanks), monitoring calls, workshops and other events;
• Assist in planning and preparing meetings with the Governance pillar members and be the penholder of meetings’ notes and consolidation of UNISS Governance pillar members’ contributions to the GWG policy documents.

Strategic technical input
• Provide advice, and technical inputs into policy documents.
• Participate in the UNISS Governance Working Group meetings and other pillar – if possible - and provide consolidate minutes.
• Another responsibility will be to work on expanding existing and building new networks with stakeholders including academic researchers, professional evaluators, development practitioners and others, as required.

Building strategic partnerships
• Identify and interact with key think tanks partners in the strategic thematic Governance, Peacebuilding and Resilience areas of the region.
• Contribute to the organization of policy forums and thematic discussion with stakeholders and partners in the region to maintain dialogue, debate, advocate, promote and advance key strategic issues, priorities and interests for a successful program partnership.
Contribute to the preparation of a communication strategy and its implementation with a focus on program results for better visibility of partners


Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
Education -: A Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Master degree or equivalent in international studies, economics, political or social sciences, public policy, statistics or other relevant development-related field.
Required experience: 24 Months

Experience remark:
At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in peace and security, conflict and crisis prevention, peacebuilding and development analysis and other related areas;
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment;
• Ability to use computers and office software packages and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and experience in handling of web based management systems.
• Experience with and/or knowledge of evidence synthesis methodologies;
• Experience in writing and producing reports, research papers or briefs; and
• Experience in organising events such as workshops and seminars.

Language skills:
• English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
• French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

• Actively works towards continuing personal learning, acts on learning plan and applies newly acquired skills.

Development and Operational Effectiveness
• Ability to perform a variety of specialized tasks related to Results-Based Management, including support to design, planning and implementation of programme, managing data, reporting.
• Ability to communicate effectively for effective coordination with donors and stakeholders.
• Good knowledge of institutional mandates, policies and guidelines pertaining to recovery and development issues, peace and security and sound knowledge of the institutions of the UN system.
• Ability to analyze to obtain, evaluate and interpret factual data and to prepare accurate and complete reports and other documents.
• Solid knowledge and experience in programme management and financial resources management.

Self-Management
• Ability to plan own work, manage conflicting priorities and work under pressure of tight and conflicting deadlines.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations with donors and stakeholders.
• Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications.
• Strong communication capacities to work in a multi-cultural team in difficult circumstances.
• The successful candidate should be performance driven through independent as well as collaborative and synergetic research, demonstrate excellent coordination and communicational skills.
