Job description
Operates and maintains serviceability of Defense Attaché Office (DAO) motor vehicles for transport of the Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché (SDO/DATT), DAO members, and DAO visitors to various locations within Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and neighboring areas. Provides afterhours transportation frequently for representational events. Applies sound judgment in determining the shortest, safest, and most practical route to be used in concurrence with economic and safety considerations. Observes all traffic regulations and safe driving practices; as well as maintains a level of professionalism and courtesy expected of a chauffeur of a foreign government representative.
Responsible for the general maintenance and cleanliness of five vehicles, maintaining service charts, and completing driving, fuel, and maintenance logs in accordance with directives. Conducts administrative tasks and other duties affiliated with DAO operations. The chauffeur prepares, processes, and delivers correspondence, under guidance of the SDO/DATT, including diplomatic note requests for U.S. military overflight and landing clearance to host nation governments and other agencies, ministries, and companies. Conducts airport operations for all military aircraft. Assists arriving and departing DAO personnel, as well as official and Distinguished Visitors, with customs, immigration, and other clearances required for entry and exit at Senegalese Airport terminals. Provides routine translator and cultural immersion assistance for DAO Personnel.
Job requirements
• Minimum three years of documented chauffeur experience/employment required.
• A comprehensive knowledge of Senegal local and federal driving regulations; considerable knowledge of defense driving and vehicle security procedures; good knowledge of administrative procedures, computer skills, and GPS navigation devices.
• Must possess and maintain a current passport for international travel.
• Level II (Limited Knowledge) reading/writing/speaking in English
• Level III Good working knowledge; speaking, reading & writing in French and Wolof is required.
• Must have valid local drivers license and maintain a current driver’s license for large commercial trucks, vans and regular passenger vehicles. Ability to use a computer.
• Ability to manage difficult situations and make appropriate decisions under pressure.
• Ability to negotiate with airline agents and airport officials. Must be capable of performing moderately arduous work including lifting of 50 lb. loads and loads of several hundred kilos.
