UNODC hiring Intern – Terrorism Prevention.
This position is located in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for West and Central Africa in Dakar, Senegal (ROSEN) in Dakar, Senegal.
Selected candidate will work on issues related to crime prevention, criminal justice and terrorism related issues, under direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator Terrorism Prevention in ROSEN.
This vacancy announcement is for 3 internship positions for a period of four to six months.
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely from their country of nationality/residence for a part or the entirety of the internship in view of constraints regarding travel restrictions.

Responsibilities
Under overall supervision of the Regional Coordinator of the Terrorism Prevention Branch, and under direct supervision of one or more staff members, the selected candidates will be responsible for the following duties:
• Assist in staff members’ preparation of technical assistance missions, workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences;
• Conduct research on political and legal aspects of counter terrorism and contribute to the preparation of UNODC publications, background notes, reports, briefing materials, presentations, correspondences with Member State governments, talking points and speeches;
• Attend and take notes at various meetings;
• Perform other tasks as necessary.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
• For this particular position students and graduates in the fields of law, security studies, international affairs, political science and related are sought.
• Be computer literate in standard software applications;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written French and English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
